What are you looking forward to at Women in Tech Boston?

I am really looking forward to connecting with Women In Tech Boston attendees and learning about their individual journeys and challenges as women in technology.  I’m also excited to meet the other speakers and learn from them!

What advice would you give to a woman looking to step up their career in tech?

Technology is an ever-changing space. When stepping up your career it’s important to stay up on the latest and greatest products, architecture paradigms, and other technology advances.  It is equally as important to continue to evolve your network; establish connections and visibility with your leadership, take the opportunity to blog or speak, and participate in conferences like Women in Technology.  Your connections with others in this field are the single most important step you can take to evolve your career.  We can talk more about why in October!

What do you see as the biggest challenge currently facing women in technology?

The single biggest challenge facing women in technology is finding a culture and value fit.   There are plenty of small, medium and large companies with inclusive cultures, where you can be authentic and add incredible value while growing in your confidence and skill sets.  There are also still, sadly, plenty of companies where this will be harder.   Understanding where you may be able to help those evolve is important.  In some cases you will be able to move the needle, in others, you won’t – and it is important to not drain your energy on the wrong culture.

The theme of the event is Resilience, what does resilience mean to you?

Resilience is the ability to overcome obstacles and continue toward your dreams quickly. In my session, we will discuss the practice of  “See it, Own it, Solve it” to meet and overcome challenges. This practice has served me well throughout my career!

Finally, what can attendees expect from your session at Women in Tech Boston?

In my session at Women in Tech Boston, we will discuss strategies for recognizing obstacles, overcoming them and achieving success.  There will also be an opportunity for introspection on what you’re driving for in your career and why; building an understanding of where your heart lies and not just what your head is telling you.

Join Pamela Taylor-Paris for her session “Navigating Your Career as a Woman in Technology” at Women in Tech Boston on October 20 – 21st.
