Firstly, please introduce yourself
I’m Executive Coach Liz Myers based in Boston, MA. I have an MS in engineering from Stanford, and became a coach in 2007 just 2 years after grad school. I struggled early on with the way my manager treated me and my motivation levels each day. Further, I was passionate about personal development work and saw the effect that doing it or not doing it had at work on those around me. I wanted to make a difference in leaders’ abilities to develop themselves, be authentic, and get better results by doing so.
What are you looking forward to at Women in Tech Boston?
As an introvert, I love soaking up the energy buzz at conferences (and then go be by myself to rest, of course!). With women outpacing men on achieving advanced degrees, I believe the future is in the hands of women, and especially women in tech. I look forward to connecting and sharing with amazing, talented women committed to the personal growth that gives them a strong foundation on which to use their tech prowess to make the world a better place.
What advice would you give to a woman looking to step up their career in tech?
For many women in tech, the technical skills are the easy ones. Work on yourself. Strengthen your relationship with yourself, the constructive quality of your inner dialogue, and your commitment to balance and health – emotional, physical, spiritual.
What do you see as the biggest challenge currently facing women in technology?
Men. I just told my husband this morning – in front of my 8 year old daughter – to quit interrupting me. Then I turned to her and said, don’t let men interrupt you.
The theme of the event is Resilience, what does resilience mean to you?
I just finished delivering a 16-week leadership masterclass called Foundations for Resilience for a client. It was powerful. I see resilience as one’s ability to successfully respond to, move through, and integrate challenges. It’s not exactly about “bouncing” back. It’s much deeper than that. A key component is facing and learning from the experiences that make us uncomfortable.
The theme of the event is Resilience, what does resilience mean to you?
In my workshop, Engage Your People: Coaching Skills for Leaders, attendees can expect an engaging, interactive experience that will give them a clear framework for how to use key coaching skills to engage and empower their people more effectively.
